Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA)
RCIA is a process to consider whether or not an individual is called to join the Roman Catholic Church. The initial period is one of inquiry and searching. Those who may consider this process are people who have never been baptized but feel a calling to something more in their life or to share a common religious belief with a significant other. These individual who choose to continue the process are called Catechumen.
Other individuals are already Christian by virtue of Baptism in another faith tradition; and now have chosen to follow the Catholic Faith. A third category are individuals who were baptized Catholic but who have never received the sacraments of Eucharist and Confirmation. All these individuals will make a decision to continue the process by November 1. The process involves lecture, textbook assignments, DVDs, discussion, and guest speakers. We meet every Thursday evening at 7 PM in the Deacon's Room. Please use Door #2 the one closest to the Church Hall to enter the school building. For more information, please call 708-326-9313. |
Marriage PreparationAll plans for weddings at St Mary Parish are initiated through a meeting with the Pastor. Once this meeting is completed and a date for marriage is set, the couple will be notified by the Adult Formation Office of their registration with FOCCUS, which is an inventory process of the similarities and differences held in beliefs and practices of the couple. When the couple has independently completed the inventory, the Adult Formation Office with assign a Marriage Prep couple to meet with them and discuss the results of the inventory with them.
After this interview is completed, the couple is required to make a Pre-Cana Day, either at St Mary Parish, St Anthony Parish (Frankfort), the Diocese of Joliet, or the Archdiocese of Chicago. Once Pre-Cana is completed, the couple will meet again with the Pastor to finalize the details of the Liturgy. |
